Nittany Lions Facing off-the-field Problems
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under College Football
It is already common knowledge that back in April 2007, some Penn State football players were involved in a fight and as a result, team head coach Joe Paterno forced the entire football team to pick up garbage the day after home games at Beaver Stadium. Now the problem worsens; less than a week after Nittany Lion running back Austin Scott was suspended for violating a team rule, Paterno said on Tuesday that he was looking into the possibility that some players were involved in yet another fight this past weekend.
When asked about the possible altercation, Paterno told Genaro C. Armas of the Associated Press, “I’ve been alerted there might have been a couple football players involved in a fight. To what extent, to what degree, what happened, I’m not quite sure yet.” Tyrone Parham, Penn State assistant police director, declined to comment about whether any players were under investigation; however, he added, “We can’t confirm anyone’s affiliation with Penn State. We don’t confirm anything until a person is charged.”
What is known is that a University log shows the police agency is investigating a call earle Sunday from the student union that concerned an alleged assault, harrassment and disorderly conduct. The call took place at 1:45 AM - nearly seven hours after the Nittany Lions defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes. One person suffered a bloody nose and was treated at the scene, according to Parham. Bill Mahon, Penn state vice president, stated that University police were handling that particular investigation in normal fashion.
