University of Georgia president Michael Adams has written a letter to NCAA president Dr. Myles Brand pushing for a football playoff system. The letter comes a day after LSU captured the BCS title after its 38-24 win over Ohio State. Adams, who is also the chairman of the NCAA executive committee, asked Brand to create a committee from the NCAA’s Division One Board of Directors to look into possibly staging a championship tournament in January following the bowl season.

Adams proposes that the winners of the Rose, Sugar, Orange and Fiesta bowls would meet in semifinal games on the second Saturday in January, with the championship game the following weekend. Brand responded with a prepared statement on the NCAA’s web site and said he would bring the Division One Board of Directors Adams’ request at its meeting in Nashville on January 14th. Georgia hammered Hawaii, 41-10, in the Sugar Bowl.
