The Memphis Tigers conduct their first scrimmage of fall practice today in preparation for their season-opener August 30th at Ole Miss. Coach Tommy West says it’s hard to tell just how far players have progressed until he can put them in game situations. West says he’s pleased with what he has seen in the first week of practice, but he’ll know a lot more after today’s workout. Running back T.J. Pitts and linebacker Josh Weaver have seen limited action as they recover from earlier injuries. Pitts broke an ankle in last December’s New Orleans Bowl and needs conditioning work to be ready to play. Weaver suffered a shoulder injury in the spring, and it’s not clear when he’ll be able to play.
