Edwards Makes It Official, Commits To Florida State

After a last-minute courtship with Oklahoma, Texas and LSU, Denton Ryan defensive end Mario Edwards, Jr. has ended his recruiting, solidly committing to Florida State, according to Corbett Smith of the Dallas News.

Edwards confirmed his decision with Warchant.com on Monday.

“The reason I picked FSU is the feeling I have while I’m there and because they have back-to-back [recruiting] classes that are top of the nation and I want to be a part of that,” Edwards told Warchant.com.

Edwards never wavered saying that Florida State was his favorite, orally committing to the school in March. But over the last two months, he took official visits to Oklahoma, Texas and LSU.

The 6-4, 285-pound Edwards is the top recruit on SportsDay‘s Area Top 100 and ranked No. 3 nationally by Rivals. Named USAToday‘s 2011 high school defensive player of the year, he had 72 tackles, 32 for loss, with 11 sacks, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two safeties this season for Denton Ryan (12-1).
